INSTALLING THE BINARY VERSION OF OSW FOR APPLE MACINTOSH OS X 0. GET THE OSW DISTRIBUTION Download the Mac OS X image osw-x.x.x.macosx.dmg and mount it on your Desktop by double-clicking it. 1. INSTALLING TCL/TK A self-installing version of Tcl/Tk, including Itcl is available from tcltkaqua.sourceforge.net as a self-installing archive. The "BI" (batteries included) version is required for OSW. Simply download the TclTkAquaBI-8.4.x.dmg file. Open the .dmg file to mount the virtual drive, and double click on the installer package (the icon looks like an open cardboard box). 2. RUNNING "INSTALL" Once Tcl/Tk and Itcl are installed, you are ready to continue with installation of OSW. Double-click on the osw-x.x.x disk on your desktop. Inside this disk you will find the OSW installer, OpenSoundWorld.pkg. Double-click on the installer and follow to the steps on the screen. This is a standard Apple OSX installer, so the process should be fairly familiar. 3. STARTING OSW FROM THE FINDER (MAC OS X DESKTOP) The installer should add "Open Sound World" to your /Applications folder. It can be easily distinguished with the yellow puffer fish icon. Double-click the app icon to start OSW. 4. STARTING OSW FROM THE COMMAND LINE (TERMINAL WINDOW) OSW can also be launched from the command line in a terminal window. First, make sure that /usr/local/bin is part of your path (it probably is). After that, type "osw" to launch OSW. It should be exactly the same as the version launchable from the Mac Finder. To start OSW in "server mode" without a user interface, type "osw --server". More information about server mode can be found in the User Guide. Type "osw --help" to obtain a list of command-line options that are available. A more detail description of the command-line options can be found in the User Guide. 5. START PLAYING That's it. You should be ready to start using OSW now. Have fun!
